wax resist final project

(not my vessel) But what i did was i made a coil pot in the shape of a bowl, then i drew a zig- zag pattern on the inside of the bowl with pencil after it became bone wear, then i painted the wax on and waited for it to dry, once dry i wiped the bowl with a damp sponge creating different depths of the clay. Where the wax was, was now a raised surface and the untouched clay was sunken in. Sadly after doing this step half of my bowl broke off when i was taking off the outside design because i didn't like it anymore. I kept the bottom half and glazed it a dark aqua color and it still needs to be fired.

final assessment

1) I think that we covered almost every type of project. Maybe doing the slip casting next year would be fun.

2) I definitely do have a personal style in my art. I am more sculptural and try to make things as realistic as possible.

3) I am much neater with my work and i take more time to do things to make them look good. I have definitely progressed as an artist over the years. In the beginning i was very messy and didn't try too hard, and now i go hard in my work.I still make thick bottom things on the wheel and i could make lighter pots.

4) The blogs were alright, i mean they weren't terrible and it was nice to not do a stupid power point. So i guess i liked it.

senior write-up

Kelly Doherty
Throughout my high school career I have taken 3D- design, photo 1 and 2, and ceramics 1-3. My favorite part about ceramics is hand- building. Ceramics is important to me because it is an awesome way for me to be creative and to relieve some stress in a healthy way.  For my future I am undecided on what I’d like to do as a career, I have a few ideas in mind but nothing is set in stone. UI will continue to draw, take pictures, and do ceramics for as long as I can. I love making art and will do so until the day I die. I will miss the friends I have made and the times I have had in my high school ceramic classes, but im sure there will be many more to come. As my favorite teacher says, potters score daily- Ms. Reardon J

important person research: Dr. Seuss

Theodor Seuss Geisel A.K.A. Dr. Seuss (1904-1991) a well known children's book author, known for his whimsical style, inspirational messages, colorful drawings, and tone wrote 45 books. He was a shy, married man who never actually had children of his own. His creative writing and rhyming skills came from his mother and love of drawing came from his father. He had a fear of public speaking as a result of an embarrassing incident in his childhood. (he had sold the most liberty bonds in the boy scout troop, but when Theodore Roosevelt came to give the 10 boys there medals they ran out and he got escorted off of the stage without a medal.) The name Seuss came about because he was kicked off of his college magazine The Jack-O-Lantern. He wrote secretly posing as Seuss.

“Today you are You, that is truer than true. There is no one alive who is Youer than You.”
― Dr. Seuss
“Fantasy is a necessary ingredient in living, it's a way of looking at life through the wrong end of a telescope.”
― Dr. Seuss
“Adults are just obsolete children and the hell with them.”
― Dr. Seuss
“Why fit in when you were born to stand out?”
― Dr. Seuss
Just tell yourself, Duckie, you're real quite lucky.”
― Dr. Seuss
“We are all a little weird and life’s a little weird, and when we find someone whose weirdness is compatible with ours, we join up with them and fall in mutual weirdness and call it love.”
― Dr. Seuss
“Be who you are and say what you feel,
because those who mind don't matter,
and those who matter don't mind.”
― Dr. Seuss
“‎Live with intention. Walk to the edge. Listen Hard. Practice wellness. PLay with abondon. Laugh. Choose with no regrets. Appreciate your friends. Continue to learn. Do what you love. Live as if this is all there is”
